Beginnings
The Triratna Ayr group started meeting in April 2024. After starting her Dharma journey in Ayr over 20 years ago, Karunaradha wanted to bring the teachings back to Ayr and to as many people as possible. It was Vipassini and Vimalavajra who planted the Dharma seed in Ayrshire all those years ago and it is now, once again, sprouting green shoots! Sadhu to them.
Sangha
The Ayr sangha has a care membership of about twelve people, with one order member (Karunaradha) and five mitras. Sangha meets every Tuesday evening for two hours between 6.30 and 8.30 in a lovely big space hired from Narture, a charity which bakes bread to support local arts. Each evening, we have a meditation, then a cup of tea, followed by a Dharma talk. To date, we have studied the Introduction to Buddhism course, as well as the Wheel of Life and the Noble Eightfold Path courses.
Support
We were delighted to receive funding from the Future Dharma Fund. This has enabled us to buy much needed meditation equipment, e.g., cushions, blocks and blankets to help our meditation practices. We also received financial support from the Glasgow Buddhist Centre to help with the start-up costs for the first three months of the group. We’ve also been fortunate to have six visiting order members come down from Glasgow to give a wide range of Dharma talks.
